After a lengthy process and many road blocks, the Garland Housing Finance Corporation is successful in the acquisition of the Miller Gardens Apartment building. The sub-standard apartment building is scheduled for demolition immediately after acquisition. “We want to send a message that sub-standard housing will not be tolerated in Garland” says President of the Board, Ed Jackson. Future development plans for the site are in the works and may include a “Mixed-use Development” that the citizens of Garland will be proud of. A ceremonial demolition was held Friday, September the 18^th. Councilmembers, Citizens, Community Leaders and former residents of the building got together to remember the old complex and look forward to the future development. Executive Director, John D. Jacobs, sums up his views “Our purpose is to not only improve this site, but to improve the immediate areas around it, remediate sub-standard housing in Garland and ultimately strengthen the community”.
